George "Ossie" Alvin Long, age 83, of Springfield Missouri, passed away on October 24, 2024, at Brookhaven Nursing Facility. George was born to Jim Long and Evelyn Bryant. He was raised in Kansas and then in Springfield. He received a GED while serving in the United States Army. He was married for 26 years to Ethel Frances Bilderback-Long. They had two children, Renae Long and Steven Long.
George's occupations included 26 years as a butcher for Hormel Packing, then retiring from Fasco Company as a supervisor. When not working he loved cooking, gardening, and telling his life story with friends and family. His very favorite pastime was watching Gunsmoke and eating Reese's Peanut Butter Cups with his grandson/son Derek.
George was proceeded in death by his father, William "Jim" Clifton Long; mother, Manda Evelyn Bryant-Long; and son, Steven Clifton Long. He is survived by his daughter, Wanda Renae Long-Griffin; five grandchildren: Derek Griffin, Desirae Griffin, Terran Moore, Taylor Moore, and Kory Montiel. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren: Mia, Mara, TJ, Phia, Lyv, and Kannon.
There are no services scheduled at this time. Arrangements are under the compassionate direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield, Missouri.
