George Bacon Loughery III, 89, passed away in his Muhlenberg Township residence on June 17, 2024. Born January 29, 1935, in Oreland, Montgomery County, he was a son of the late George B. Loughery, Jr. and Eleanor Kent (Pallatt) Loughery.
He was a graduate of Abington High School; Penn State University, where he earned his BS in Electrical Engineering; and Clarkson University (New York), where he earned his Master's in EE. George was very proud of his education. George was employed as an electrical engineer at Western Electric Reading Works for 25 years, retiring in 1985. He was a life member of Hay Creek Valley Historical Association, Morgantown, where he enjoyed volunteering alongside fellow members of the Over The Hill Gang.
George is survived by his three children: George B. Loughery, IV, husband of Sylvia C. of Reading; Robert A. Loughery, husband of Patti A. of Birdsboro; and Beverly S. Loughery of Orlando, FL. Also surviving are his five grandchildren: Eleanor C. Howey, Cristina M. Loughery, Ana L. Ferson, Thomas S. Loughery, and Kelly J. Loughery; and his great grandson, James R. Howey. In addition, he is survived by his two brothers, Kent A. Loughery of Revere, PA, and Geoffrey A., husband of Rita Loughery, in Chalfont, PA.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 24th at 11 a.m. at Laureldale Cemetery Chapel, 4631 Pottsville Pike, Reading, PA. A visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. in the chapel. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., Laureldale is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you take your grandchildren out for ice cream.
