George Edward Matyk II, known to most as "Isch," decided on September 2, 2025, to follow in his grandfather's footsteps and check out of this world on the exact same date-21 years apart.
Born on 11/11/61 in California, he spent his younger years perfecting sarcasm, dark humor, and a lifelong obsession with things that had strings, wings, or wheels: guitars, RC planes, and his beloved DeLorean. (Yes, that car. And yes, he did threaten to hit 88 mph more than once.)
In 1991, he moved to Duncanville, Alabama, and never left. Some would say it was for the slower pace of life; others suspect it was just to have more room to crash RC planes.
Isch is survived by his mother, Shirley Matyk; daughter, Brandi Matyk Poole; and his "not-so-biological-but-still-his" son, James Matyk. He also leaves behind a band of grandkids-Morgan Ragland, Dalton Poole, Hunter Ragland, Robert Matyk, Maison Vincent, Hailey Matyk, and Eli Matyk-who will forever hear the Beatles playing in the background when they think of him. Two great-grandchildren, Brooks Ragland and Fisher Ragland, will grow up with stories of the granddad who thought guitars made better wall art than pictures.
He didn't collect trophies, but he left behind riffs, laughter, and the occasional pile of RC plane parts. And somewhere, John, Paul, George, and Ringo are probably already rolling their eyes as he tries to join the band.
A gathering and memorial service will be held at Heritage House, 2370 Jack Warner Pkwy, on Sunday September 14th at noon. Refreshments to follow.
