George McConnell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home and Chapel on Mar. 7, 2026.
George Robert McConnell, known to most as Robert, was born on May 9, 1955, and passed away on March 6, 2026.

Robert was born and raised on a farm, where he developed a deep love for animals and the simple joys of country life. He especially loved caring for the chickens and rabbits on the farm and was known to be particularly fond of his rabbits. In his younger years, he also enjoyed hunting anything that threatened his chickens.

Robert had a creative spirit and loved working with his hands. He enjoyed arts and crafts, drawing and painting pictures of people and houses, and building birdhouses out of popsicle sticks which he would carefully paint. His creations reflected both his patience and his imagination.

Faith was an important part of Robert's life. He loved attending church and was a longtime member of Naples Baptist Church, which later became New Beginnings Church. During his time there, he enjoyed being involved in children's ministry and spending time with the church community he cared so deeply about.

Robert was known for his friendly nature and warm heart. He never met a stranger and made friends wherever he went. His kindness and gentle spirit will be remembered by all who knew him.

He is survived by his three brothers, Jimmy McConnell, Paul McConnell, and Malcolm McConnell; four nieces and nephews, Fauna Hankins and husband Rik, Casey McConnell, Justin McConnell and wife Amanda; and Rebecca Nieto and husband Marcus; six great-nieces and great-nephews, Gunner Hankins, Kayelynn McConnell, Kaden Thompson, Cameron Nieto, Ryne Nieto, and Ryker McConnell; along with a numerous amount of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harlon and Sylvania McConnell; his grandparents; and one brother, Bruce McConnell.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 9, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at New Beginnings Church in Blanchard, Oklahoma.
