George McGuigan Obituary

George C. McGuigan, Sr., former resident of Redding, beloved husband of Barbara (Garrity) McGuigan, died peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at East Hill Senior Living in Southbury. He was born in New Haven on June 28, 1934, son of the late Clifford and Veronica (Alex) McGuigan. He was a parishioner of St. Patrick Church in Redding where he served as an usher and was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.
George graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a degree in Education. He furthered his education at Yale University where he earned his Masters Degree in Fine Arts. He shared his talent and passion for art as a middle school art teacher for the Weston Public Schools. He retired after more than 30 years.
He was a talented artist, avid fly fisherman, and loved to play golf. His happiest times were spent traveling with Barbara by his side to 19 countries. The two enjoyed places such as Turkey, Greece, Kenya and Israel.
Most importantly, George was a man of faith who devoted himself to his family.
In addition to his cherished wife, Barbara, he will be missed by his children, George C. McGuigan, Jr., Brian McGuigan (Carol), Veronica Keiter (Chris), and Matthew McGuigan; his grandchildren, Patrick and Cynthia Keiter, and Ian McGuigan. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Kelley (Robert); and his sister-in-law, Ann McGuigan.
He was predeceased by his brother, William and his sister, Veronica.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 7th at 10:00am at St. Patrick Church in Redding. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Bethel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Vitas Hospice - 199 Park Road Extension, Suite 102, Middlebury, CT 06762.
