George Edward Merry, a cherished family man, skilled mechanic, and pillar of his community, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, at Wexford Senior Care in Cadillac. He was born on March 4, 1942, in Holly, Michigan, and lived a life full of love, wisdom, and service, leaving behind a legacy that will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
George graduated from Holly High School and dedicated his life to the mastery of mechanics. His career began at Parsell Buick in Grand Blanc, where he became known for his incredible ability to diagnose and repair with precision and care. Later, he brought his talents to Bell-Dean Chevrolet in Durand, where his reputation as a trusted and skilled mechanic continued to grow. George also worked at Centry Tool and Die, where his expertise contributed to the company's success.
On September 16, 1983, George married the love of his life, Norma Iolene Housel, at Calvary Baptist Church in Durand. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised a blended family that would become George's pride and joy. He was a devoted to their eight children: Dale Warner, Scott (Kim) Bowen, Robin (Bob) Hartoon, Tammy (Buddy) Harper, Dianna (Mike) Hein, Monica (Steve) Frank, Scott (Liz) Merry, and Karen Merry. His legacy continued to flourish with the addition of 30 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren, who all adored their wise and loving patriarch.
A devout Christian, George's faith was the cornerstone of his life. He lived by the principles of love, kindness, and humility, always willing to lend a helping hand and offer a word of wisdom. His intelligence and handy nature made him the go-to person for advice and support within his family.
George's passion for vintage cars was well-known. He loved nothing more than being in the garage, working on cars, and sharing his knowledge of hotrods with anyone who shared his interest. His love of the outdoors was evident in his enjoyment of hunting and simply being outside, surrounded by nature's beauty.
Family was the center of George's world. He treasured every moment spent with his loved ones, whether it was a large family gathering or quiet time with his children and grandchildren. His presence was a source of comfort and joy, and his infectious laughter could light up any room.
As we say farewell to George, we celebrate a life well-lived, a man well-loved, and a legacy that will endure through the generations. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Norma, and his parents. George's memory will be forever held in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were blessed to cross paths with him.
