George Edward Misner, a man of loving heart, adventurous spirit, and creative mind, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025, in Springfield, Oregon. Born on October 23, 1933, in Reubens, Idaho, George's journey through life was marked by dedication, service, and the joy of craftsmanship.
George's early life was rooted in the values of family and education. He graduated from Willamette High School and furthered his skills at Oregon Technical Institute, where he earned a Machinist Degree. His commitment to his country was evident through his service in the Army from 1953 to 1956, where he attended the Scout Dog Handler course and was deployed in support of the Korean War. For his service, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal.
In 1957, George married the love of his life, Shirley Jean Parks, in Eugene, Oregon. Their union was blessed with three daughters: Susan L. Sytsma of Harrisburg, OR, Margaret A. Koch of Crane, OR, and Kathryn P. Bell of Marcola, OR. George was a family man at heart, and his legacy continues through his seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
George's professional life was as a machinist, and in December 1961, he began a fulfilling career at EWEB, working in the water department. He managed his own truck and dedicated almost 30 years to the company before retiring on November 1, 1991.
His Christian faith guided him throughout his life, providing a foundation of strength and compassion. George's interests were diverse and reflected his love for the outdoors and creative expression. He served on the Willamette Ski Patrol, was active in bicycle racing, and found joy in square dancing. His artistic talents shone through his work with stained glass and welded metal creations.
George was predeceased by his father, Ladru Misner, mother, Muriel Ruckman, and brothers, Robert and John Misner. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his devoted wife, daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who knew him.
George Edward Misner's life was a testament to the power of love, the thrill of adventure, and the beauty of creation. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire for generations to come.
