George James Pierson, 82, of Fort Pierce, FL, formerly of Novi, MI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Cherry Hill Haven in Kalkaska. He was born on September 13, 1943, in Detroit, the son of George and Marie (Crowley) Pierson.
George graduated from Redford Union High School and went on to attend college in Texas. While he was there, he rode bulls and broncos in the rodeo. He returned home to Michigan and went to work at Detroit Deisel, retiring after over 35 years of dedicated employment. It was also there that he met his future wife, Dee Layow, and the two were married on March 23, 1979. George also worked on the Novi Fire Department, serving as Captain for many years. After retiring from Detroit Deisel, he sold real estate for several years.
In 2016, he and Dee retired to Palm Grove in Fort Pierce, FL, where they enjoyed making many new friends and even more memories. He became president of the Palm Grove Association and planned numerous events over the years that many were able to partake in and enjoy.
George loved spending time outdoors deer hunting and fishing for whatever was biting. He also enjoyed bowling, playing bocce ball, and was always the life of the party. He will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.
George is survived by his son, Chad Pierson; his daughter, Deanna Pierson; his grandson, Keenan Pierson; three sisters, Liz Yost, Cheri Berryhill, and Jamie Heldt; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many beloved friends who are close to his heart, Bob & Sandy, Bob & Jenny, Steve, Carm & Bill, and Pat & Lenny.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dee Pierson; his sister Carol Clarke; and his parents.
A celebration of George’s life will take place at a later date in both Michigan and Florida.
