George F. Poppe III, CLU, LUTCF
Born and raised in Staten Island, George moved to Edison in 1976.
George F. Poppe III entered the life insurance business on June 8, 1964, and retired on October 1, 2021. He held various management positions and was the Managing General Agent of The Poppe Agency. George was actively involved in many organizations, serving as President of several associations including the South Shore Staten Island Lions Club, Middlesex-Somerset Association of Life Underwriters, and New Jersey State Association of Life Underwriters. He was honored with numerous awards, including the Million Dollar Round Table for 44 years, and received the Israel Siegel Award in 1996.
George was a dedicated community member, serving as a Middlesex County Republican Committeeman from 1977 to 2014. He coached youth sports in Staten Island and Edison, NJ. He was also involved in local governance, serving on review boards and advisory committees.
George held the position of Vestryman and Treasurer of the Capital Endowment fun at St. Luke's Episcopal Church of Metuchen.
George resided in Edison, NJ, with his wife Kathy. He has two sons, George F. Poppe IV and his step-son Paul, and is a proud grandfather. George F. Poppe IV is married to Sara and has a son, Dylan, and a daughter, Willow. Paul is married and has three daughters. George will be remembered for his extensive contributions to both his professional and personal communities.
The Visitation will take place on Sunday, February 9, 2025, from 2-4pm with a Funeral Service at 4pm at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave., Metuchen.
