George Walter Regitko, Jr., age 72, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his wife and daughters, after a courageous, eight-year battle with Parkinson's. He was born on September 20, 1951, in San Marcos, Texas to the late George and Ruth Beasley Regitko. He was raised in Jacksonville, Florida, where he graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, furthering his education for one year at his beloved University of Florida before graduating from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. After meeting the love of his life, Angela, George moved to Cookeville, Tennessee and spent the last 27 years pouring into his community and developing wonderful friendships. George had a robust career as a successful entrepreneur and salesman, culminating in a brotherhood with the National Air Traffic Controllers Union (NATCA) through Southern Insurance Group. He worked exclusively with NATCA as their preferred life insurance provider and traveled extensively across the country, serving their membership. George was an avid golfer, fierce competitor, forever loyal Florida Gators fan, and sports enthusiast.
George invested heavily in Cookeville and contributed to dozens of causes with his time, talents, and resources. He was the visionary of the Tee It Up for the Cure Golf Tournament, benefiting the Upper Cumberland Susan G. Komen Affiliate. He recruited hundreds of volunteers and golfers, as well as hosted the tournament for over a decade, raising over half-a-million dollars. He was passionately committed to his Regitko and Stone family members, who will dearly miss his humor, his generosity, and his devotion. He is survived by his loving wife, Angela Stone Regitko, daughters Sally Smith (Steve), Jenny Mayberry (Patrick), and Mary Beth Jaquess (Tyler), sister Caroline Boutte Gallagher (Peter), nephews Gray Boutte (Krista) and Banks Boutte (Carmen), grandchildren Jackson Demps, Maggie, Jude, Tripp and Crosby Mayberry, Jackson and Grainger Smith, extended Stone family members, his four-legged buddy Georgie, and his caretaker and devoted friend Miranda Cook. He is predeceased by his parents, George and Ruth Beasley Regitko and aunts Mary Beasley Durham, Rose Beasley Givens, and Helen Beasley Hunter.
The family is full of gratitude for Hospice of Tennessee, especially, for our caring angels Nash, Karen, Judy, and Beckey, who gave selflessly of their time, care, and compassion.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 18th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Crest Lawn Funeral Home, with a celebration of George's life immediately following at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your local The Parkinson's Foundation or Hospice of Tennessee, 155 E Spring Street, Suite A, Cookeville, TN 38501.
