Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford
George Edward Reynolds, age 89, passed away at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, Mississippi on October 15, 2025 after a brief illness.
The family will have a memorial service in his honor at a later date.
George was born on January 25, 1936 in Jonesboro, Illinois to the late Robert and Sarah Viola (Burns) Reynolds.
He retired from AFSCME Council 31 after a long career, always fighting for workers rights.
In his free time, George was an avid reader, finding joy in immersing himself in books that explored the vast realms of history. His passion for the past, particularly World War II, was unmatched; he could recount details and stories that captivated anyone lucky enough to listen. A true history buff, George frequently visited historic sites, eagerly sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with those around him.
His love for learning and sharing insights about the past, as well as his dry sense of humor, will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
George is survived by his wife of 40 years, Trudy Reynolds of Oxford; his daughter, Julia White (Ronald) of Jonesboro, IL; his brother, Bon Reynolds (Linda) of Jonesboro, IL; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and his faithful furry companion, "Phoebe" also survives him.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Shelia Luff; his son Mark Reynolds; one grandson, Brion Bromead; his brothers, Harold, Carol, Jim, Richard, and Bob; and his sisters, Lillian, Sue, and Linda.
The staff at Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is honored to serve the family during this challenging season of life. Condolences may be expressed online on his Tribute wall at www.colemanfuneralhomeox.com.
