George Rogers Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crest Lawn Funeral Home & Cremation Center - Cookeville on Jan. 20, 2026.
George "Mark" Rogers, 73, a lifelong resident of Cookeville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026, at Signature Healthcare of Pickett County in Byrdstown, Tennessee.

Mark was born on March 13, 1952, in Cookeville, Tennessee, to the late Eugene Lavender "Gene" Rogers and Mary Jo (Hill) Rogers.

He graduated from Tennessee Technological University in 1975 with a degree in political science. Mark worked as a paralegal in Cookeville and was deeply involved in local political campaigns, where his dedication and insight made a lasting impact.

Mark was initiated into the Eta Delta Chapter of Sigma Chi in 1971 at Tennessee Tech. He served as Consul (president) as an undergraduate. As an alumnus, Mark was the chairman of Eta Delta's House Corporation during the construction of the current chapter house. Mark cherished the lifelong friendships and brotherhood he formed there. He was also a devoted and enthusiastic supporter of the Tennessee Volunteers football, rarely missing a game or chance to cheer on his beloved team.

Mark will be remembered for his unwavering friendship, wonderful sense of humor, and genuine kindness to everyone he met. He had a warm heart and a quick wit that brought joy and comfort to those around him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Jo Rogers and Gene Lavender Rogers; his sister, Jenny Marshall (Thom); his brother, Richard Shawn Rogers (Ann); his loving daughter, Mary Mac Darnell; and his son, Justin Richardson.

Mark is survived by his loving ex-wife, Janet McKinley; his grandson, Dax Darnell; his grandson, Cole Richardson; his granddaughter, Stella Jo Richardson; a host of loving nieces and nephews; and lifelong friends who will carry forward his legacy of laughter, loyalty, and compassion.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 1:00 pm from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Bros. Dwight Henry and Bill James officiating. Interment will follow in the Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until the time of the service at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.

Mark's legacy of kindness, laughter, and loyalty will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.

I did not get the chance to know Mark until about 14 years ago.

It didn´t take long for him to become important in our lives.

He had an infectious laugh a welcoming smile, and a heart for others.

We will miss you brother.
