George Routon Obituary

Mr. Routon was born on July 29, 1929 in Manchester, Georgia and he was the son of Benjamin Woodfin Routon and Bessie Mae Rollins Routon. He joined the U.S. Navy after high school and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He graduated from North Georgia College and had a successful career with the CDC and traveled extensively throughout Central America specializing in accounting and property management. Mr. Routon was also an original founding member of Northeast Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and church clerk for many years.
George is preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Charlotte Madsen Routon; son George Finley Routon, Jr.; siblings Rachael Routon Carden, Doris Routon Clark, Abner Charlie Routon, Benjamin Berry Routon, J. Woodfin Routon, Lewis Argo Routon and Reeves Caple Routon.
Survivors include his daughter, Linda (Stephen) Routon Lefebvre; daughter in law, Dawn (Dodie) Nason Routon; grandchildren Madsen Lee Routon, Amanda Lefebvre Marten, David Finley Routon and Alicia Lauren Lefebvre; and numerous nieces, great nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025 at McDonald & Son Funeral Home in Cumming, Georgia with Rev. Mitch Hagins officiating. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm and the service will begin at 2 pm.

I have known George and attended church with him all of my teen years and adult life. He was truly a fine man, gifted in so many ways. My favorite times with him were spent working in the kitchen when he coordinated Wednesday night breakfast meals, and fish fry dinners... he could be very reserved and very funny... He was thrifty with money, but he was compassionate and generous to those in need. So many good memories. Condolences to all of his family members.
