George Robert Schnatz, 87, of Punta Gorda, Florida, passed away on January 29, 2026. He was born on April 18, 1938, in Queens, New York, to Antoinette Marie Schnatz and George Washington Schnatz.
George was a graduate of Wayne High School in Wayne, New Jersey, Class of 1957. He earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Rutgers University. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged. He was a member of the United States Marine Corps League and the American Legion.
George worked for National Cash Register and later owned and operated Independent Cash Register. He made his home in Punta Gorda, Florida.
He enjoyed boating, dancing, riding, and motorcycles and lived an active and independent life.
He is survived by his siblings Barbara Hahn, Harold Schnatz, and Robert Schnatz. He was preceded in death by his sister, Joanne Gray. George had no children.
A wake will be held Tuesday, February 3rd, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Life Celebration Center of Punta Gorda, 1550 Tamiami Trail, followed by a reception at 6:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 4th, at 11:00 a.m. at Sarasota National Cemetery, with Reverend Elizabeth Turk presiding.
Pallbearers will be the Honor Guard of the United States Marine Corps League, Harold Schnatz, United States Air Force, and Michael Schnatz, United States Marine Corps.
