George Dale Shepard, 92, of Brownstown, passed away at 3:19 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2025, at Hoosier Health & Living. He was born in Medora, IN on January 21, 1933, to the late Charles & Dessie (Buttorff) Shepard.
Dale graduated from Medora High School in 1951. He was on the Medora basketball team in 1949 when they won the sectional. He was on the starting 5 as a sophomore, junior, and senior.
After graduating, Dale worked full time at Medora Brick Plant until he went into the Army. He served in the United States Army as a Corporal from 1953-1955. He went to Greenland during his time in the Army. He was serving just outside of Paris when he was honorably discharged. Dale then went to work for Cummins Engine Company and retired after 36 years of employment.
On February 5, 1956, in Vallonia, Dale married Patricia Ann Hauer, and she preceded him in death on August 20, 2022. They were the loving parents of Alan & Gina (Ballard) Shepard. Dale was a faithful member of Brownstown Christian Church.
Dale is survived by 5 grandchildren: Jacob (Caitlin) Shepard, Daniel (Alisha) Shepard, David (Nicole) Shepard, Elizabeth Shepard, & Trevor Ballard; 5 great grandsons: Everett, Kai, Reed, Luka, & Jack; brother-in-law, Steve (Peggy) Hauer, & daughter-in-law, Maria Shepard (Don) Engle.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sisters: Helen Lloyd & Nellie Femyer; brothers: Charles & Stanley Shepard; son, Alan Shepard; daughter, Gina Ballard; and a son-in-law, Brent Ballard
Funeral Services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2025, at Johnson Funeral Home, Vallonia with Doug Pogue officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. The burial will take place at Vallonia Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Gina Shepard Ballard Scholarship Fund.
