Coventry, RI - George T.F. Southworth, 96, died Monday, November 1, 2021, at Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Betty J. (Cole) Southworth with whom, at the time of her death on March 16, 2017, he had celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary five months earlier on October 5, 2016.
Born in Providence to George and Helen (Shirley) Southworth, he was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. He had been a resident of Coventry since 1950. George was employed from 1950-1978 by BIF Industries as a water purification technician. He later worked in the same capacity for the City of Cranston for three years until his retirement in 1989.
He is survived by three children: Donna J. Tillier of Coventry, Gary E. Southworth of Coventry and Glenn S. Southworth of Port Charlotte, FL; one brother Kenneth Southworth of California; eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and great-great granddaughter. He was the father of the late George T.F. Southworth Jr. and the brother of the late James L. Southworth Sr., Raymond R. Southworth, Herbert J. Southworth, and Helen L. Gladu.
Funeral service Saturday, November 6 at 10 AM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. Burial with military honors will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The American Legion (www.legion.org). Condolences may be offered and memories shared at carpenterjenks.com.
