George Edward Spinks, Jr. was born October 27, 1963, in Louisville, Kentucky, to George Edward Sr. and Frances L. ‘Peaches’ Blincoe Spinks. He was the 3rd of 4 children and the only son born to this union. On June 28, 2025, he departed this life after a brief, sudden illness.
Called ‘Georgie' by family or Gee, G-Minor by close friends. He was Catholic and attended primary grades at local Catholic schools. In 1975, busing began in the public school system, George began 7th grade at Valley High School. He’d later transfer to Male Traditional High School and finally Stuart High School. George earned his GED certificate a year before his graduating class at Stuart. He then decided to join the Army in1983. After Basic Training, he was stationed at Fort Knox for training as a Water Treatment Specialist.
In his spare time, George enjoyed drawing, watching sports, and most of all music. He developed an interest in playing the bass guitar at age 12 after watching his father play the instrument. As young teens, George and his cousins (brothers David and Petey on rhythm and lead guitar) would practice together and teach themselves how to play, read and write music. They later formed a band comprised of friends on drums, vocals, and an additional rhythm guitar player. Music was George’s life. As an adult, a work-related injury left him with limited mobility in his left arm and elbow. He was relieved to find out that he still was able to use his left hand as before to play guitar. It might be said that music was his therapy and playing that bass was the best form of therapy. His other pastime was watching U of L football and basketball and NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers.
George was united in Holy Matrimony to the former, Uptoneya “Toneya” Whitfield on October 22, 1996. He lovingly referred to her as “my baby” and she was at his side when he departed this life.
George was funny and usually had a smile on his face and always something silly to say! He'd call himself “Uncle Georgie” regardless of how you were related! Family and friends thought this was hilarious. That was George just being George.
In addition to his wife, George leaves to cherish memories of him, three sisters, Julie A., Kathryn R. “Kathy”, and Kimberly J. “Kim” Spinks; sisters-in-law (and their spouse), Jackie and Jerry King Sr., Judith “Judy” and Harold Whiteside, Linda and Lamont Walton, Rhonda Williams, and Ivori and Rodney Stum-Moore; Aunts Marti Gunn and Ellen Ross; Uncles Wardell Gunn Sr. and Paul J. “Joe” Blincoe Sr.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including his best friend Lewis W. Gunn Jr. whom George considered like a brother.
