George Carver Thompson Jr. was born on March 17, 1948, in Manhattan, New York, to Marion E. Davis and George C. Thompson. He was the eldest of three children, sharing his childhood with siblings Marsha Thompson and Roy Thompson.
As a young boy, George spent time visiting family in Chicago Illinois , where he attended Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. It was there that he accepted Christ into his heart, holding firmly to his lifelong belief that "all things are possible with the grace of God."
George grew up enjoying family reunions, church gatherings, and exploring the vibrant streets of New York City. While attending Flushing High School in Queens New York, where he played football and graduated with pride. At the age of 19, he answered the call to serve in the U.S. Army, which allowed him the opportunity to live in various parts of the world.
In 1972, George moved to San Diego, California, and pursued a business degree at San Diego City College. With a natural entrepreneurial spirit, he became a business owner, managing ventures that included a car wash, a nail shop, an apartment complex, and even gumball machines in local stores.
In 1977, George began his career with the Metropolitan Transit System as a bus operator. He was dedicated to ensuring the safety of his passengers, often saying, "If I get someone to their destination safe, it makes my day." His leadership and commitment were recognized when he was elected union president. After nearly three decades of service, George retired from MTS in 2006.
In 1980, George met Ann J. Walker, who became his lifelong best friend. One of his greatest joys came in 1987, when he became godfather to Sasha Corona at birth. He raised her as his daughter, earning the beloved name "Poppie." His pride and joy later grew with the arrival of his twin granddaughters, Daria and Saria Freeman.
George's hard work and dedication continued throughout his life.
In 1996, he relocated to Riverside County, where he launched Spray Green Landscape Service, helping families beautify their gardens.
In 2007, he joined Robertson's Ready Mix as a truck driver, retiring in 2021. Even in retirement, George remained active, finding interest in online marketing, enjoying visits to the casino, and always surrounding himself with loved ones.
Known as "Johnny," "Big George," and "GT" by friends and family, George was a social butterfly who made connections wherever he went. He was caring, loving, funny, and nurturing, treating everyone in his life like family. He had a deep love for his dogs-Sirdutch, Zeus, Prince, Lola, Bella, and Cupid-and enjoyed training them, taking walks, and sharing their companionship.
George also loved cooking, dining out, watching sports, and being in the company of those he loved most. Despite facing medical challenges, he remained positive, leaning on his faith in God and cherishing every moment of life.
George's heart of gold, unwavering faith, and joyful spirit will be remembered forever by his family, friends, and all who were blessed to know him.
