George Thompson Obituary

George Preston Thompson, age 86, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Born on February 10, 1939, in the beautiful state of Virginia, George lived a life marked by dedication and service.

A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, George leaves behind his beloved wife, Carole Piper Thompson. He is survived by his two sons, Bryan Thompson and his wife, Debra, and Kevin Thompson and his wife, Christina. His legacy continues through his grandsons, Bryan "Preston" Thompson, Jr., and his wife, Stephanie, and Ryan Scott Thompson and his wife, Jordan, as well as his cherished great-grandchildren, Owen W. Thompson, Ada J. Thompson, Ivy J. Thompson, and Wrenley J. Thompson.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George E. Thompson and Annie M. Thompson; his first wife, Patricia V. Thompson; and six brothers, who welcomed him with open arms into eternal rest.

An esteemed professional, George served as a harbor pilot, dedicating years to guiding ships safely to their destinations until his retirement. His career reflected his deep commitment to precision and safety on the waterways.

George was a member of the Mission Church in Virginia Beach, where he found fellowship and spiritual fulfillment.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Altmeyer Funeral Home, located at 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach, on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. A Celebration of Life service will commence at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in the London Bridge Baptist Church Cemetery in Virginia Beach, where George will be laid to rest among the peaceful surroundings.

To continue to honor George's terrific memory, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Mission Church in memory of George Preston Thompson. His warmth and guidance will be deeply missed, but his spirit will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
