George Ray Welsh, 73, of McVeytown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025 at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital.
Born July 17, 1951 in Strodes Mills, George was the son of Frank C. Welsh and Alva A. (Williams) Welsh, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jill (Fisher) Welsh; his daughter and son-in-law, Genna Rae Welsh Kasun and Kevin Pattrick Kasun of Wise, Va.; and his brother and sister-in-law, Frank Welsh Jr. and Patricia Gardner, of Reedsville, Pa.
George was a loving husband and father, and cherished his time with his family, with whom he took countless weekend adventures. Often those excursions led to classic car shows and auctions where he was in search of parts for the Packard automobiles he owned and drove. He was a long-time member of the Hershey Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America, where he had many friends.
George also enjoyed the company of his dog, Skippy Ray Welsh, and grand-dog, Eli Pattrick Kasun, who both preceded him in death. He recently enjoyed meeting his newer granddog, Millie Rae Kasun.
He was a graduate of Rothrock High School and Shippensburg University. George spent his career in various finance roles at Swab Wagon Company, CMT Laboratories, and Mifflin County. He also served many years as the McVeytown tax collector.
A man of few words, George often made others smile with his quick, witty replies that could make your day. Although he was a cancer survivor who relearned to walk after a spinal cord injury, George never complained and kept an inspiring attitude despite the challenges thrown his way.
Those wishing to honor George and his family are asked, in lieu of flowers, to make a gift to the McVeytown Ambulance Service (P.O. Box 357, McVeytown, PA 17051), who were steadfast supporters of the family during George's illness in recent years.
Many of those who knew George knew he said "thank you" for each and every service performed for him. In recognition of that, the family would like to express their gratitude for the many supporters who assisted in caring for George during his illness, particularly the staff at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital and Geisinger Home Health.
Services to honor George's life will be announced at a later date.
