George Junior "Bossie" Whaley

Mr. George Junior "Bossie" Whaley, 86, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at his residence.

The funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday at 2 PM in the Farmer Funeral Chapel in Ayden officiated by Pastor Frank Rice. Entombment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Estates. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 12:30 PM.

A native and lifelong resident of the Grifton community, George was born on June 5, 1939 to the late George and Estelle Carmen Whaley. He attended the Greene County Schools. George was engaged in farming for all of his working years. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Free Will Baptist Church.

George was known to many as "Bossie", a name he was known for many years. He will be fondly remembered for his love of family, for his incredible work ethic, and for his love of his garden where he shared often with others. He was affectionately known as "Pa-Pa" by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A loving son, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Bossie will be greatly missed by the many who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Juanita Jones Whaley in 2021.

He is survived by Daughters, Monica Whaley Richards and husband, Chris, of Winterville and Angie Whaley Tice and husband, Cleve, of Oriental; Grandchildren, Courtney McLawhorn Brown and husband, Bart, of Greenville, Melissa McLawhorn Jones and husband, Jason, Chandler and Landon Richards all of Winterville; Great-grandchildren. Addie Grace and Braylen Brown, Walker, Holden and Lyla Belle Jones.
