Doris Spurrier Rasberry

Doris Rasberry passed away at the Village of Brookwood in Burlington on September 24, 2025 at the age of 98. Born on October 15, 1926 in Mt. Airy, Maryland, she only missed reaching her 99th birthday by a few weeks. She graduated from Towson State Teachers' College with a BS degree in elementary education in 1945. She taught 2nd grade for several years in Winfield, Maryland before marrying Bill on June 25, 1950. Upon completing his dental degree, the Rasberrys moved to Grifton establishing themselves as an integral part of the community until 2016 when they moved to the Village of Brookwood (a retirement community) in Burlington, NC.

Doris taught 1st grade in Grifton for 25+ years where she loved opening the world of reading to her young students. She was an active member of the Grifton United Methodist Church, a member of the Eastern Star, the local garden club, and several bridge clubs.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Rasberry, mother and father, Walter and Naomi Spurrier, and her sister, Betty Lee Kinzy. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Rasberry Lehman (Wade), grandson, Walter Lehman (April), granddaughter, Lindsay Jenkins (Sam), great grandchildren, Nathan Lehman, Owyn Lehman, Aria Jenkins.

A burial service will be held on Tuesday, September 30th at Evergreen Memorial Estates outside of Grifton at 3:00 pm. An informal visitation will be held in the fellowship hall of Grifton United Methodist Church from 4:00-5:00 pm that day with the memorial service to follow in the sanctuary at 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Grifton United Methodist Church, PO Box 416, Grifton, NC. 28530 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
