Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mercer-Adams Funeral Service on Mar. 2, 2022.
Georgette (McAreavey) Dion, 88, of Bethany, passed from this life on February 12, 2022 at Hospice House Integris, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 10, 1933 to Bernard Aloysius McAreavey and Georgette (Kane) McAreavey.
Georgette McAreavey and Ted Dion met at a going away party and were married 18 months later on May 9, 1953. She lived in Riverside California, Cleveland Ohio, and Phoenix Arizona before moving to Bethany in 1967.
Georgette was a devoted wife and mother, who found pleasure raising her family of 8 children. Her strength, sense of humor, and unwavering faith guided her to be the wonderful person we were Blessed to call Mother. She loved God, family, and country and she passed that love on to us. She taught us about kindness, integrity, character, honesty, and most importantly, LOVE. We will miss her dearly, but we are comforted by the fact that someday we will all be together again, forever.
Georgette worked in the accounting department at General Electric, Kerr-McGee, and Honeywell for several years. She worked for Putnam City Schools as the Cafeteria Manager for about 20 years. After her retirement, she volunteered for Mobile Meals at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
She enjoyed watching sports, crocheting, gardening, cooking, playing cards and games, bowling, square dancing, traveling to see family and watching grandkids and great grandkids participate in a variety of sporting events. She crocheted a blanket for each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She crocheted baby caps, lap blankets, and blankets that were donated to hospital patients.
Georgette leaves to cherish her memory: her 8 children, Cheryl Aten, Laura Holkum (Johnny), Ted Dion (Janie), Tom Dion, Jim Dion (Dellia), Barb Zajac (Ed), Margie Rosenthal (Scott), and Michelle Schender; 19 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Ted; her parents; her brother-in-law, Art Dion; sister-in-law, Evie Dion; daughter, Mary; granddaughter, Cyndi; and great-grandsons, Aydon and Holland.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated and compassionate staff of Integris Hospital & Hospice House at Integris, as well as Dr. Dean Brown and his nursing staff for over 30 years of exceptional care.
Visitation is 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm, Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Mercer-Adams Funeral Home, 3925 N. Asbury, Bethany; Rosary begins at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm, Thursday, February 17, 2022 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 5024 N. Grove Avenue, Warr Acres, OK 73122.
