Nguyen Tin Xuan Hoàng (Georgette) was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, and loving friend. She left this world suddenly in her family home in Louisville, Kentucky, USA on Thursday December 29, 2022. Georgette was born Nguyen Tin Xuan Hoàng on December 6, 1939 in Saigon, Vietnam to her father Nguyen Ván Duoc and her mother, Huynh Thi Tong.
Georgette excelled in languages aside from her native Vietnamese. She learned French formally in her youth. She picked up Chinese from neighborhood friends. She learned English having studied at the American School (Spalding University) in Vietnam but was only able to fully practice it in America. With this talent, she found her love of education and began teaching kindergartners in the Caritas Center Ecole Jardiniere for 4 years in Vietnam. Her devotion for teaching did not stop there as she was able to teach ESL at Louisville's Maupin & Rutherford Elementary Schools. Throughout her lifetime she would instruct many refugee students as an ESL teacher and numerous toddlers at Kumon for 2 decades altogether. She raised them like she raised her children with discipline and love.
Not only an educator, but she was also an avid traveler. In her early years, she was fortunate to travel the world. She would share her stories of her time studying under a chef in Paris as well as her travel adventures across the Orient with her grandchildren.
Georgette is survived and missed by her husband Gary Tran of 57 years and her children and their spouses, Nhut (ToTo) & Tanzy of Austin, TX, Nguyet (Mimi) of Dallas, TX, Xuan (TiTi) & Hong or Novi, MI, Loc & Susie of Lousiville, and Tho & Oula of Aldie, VA. She also leaves behind her younger brother Vuong, and sister Cuc in Vietnam. She will be forever cherished by her grandchildren, Nathan, Moyra, Khoi, Mai-Ly, Thu-Anh, Olivia, Lauren, Rex, and Reina. Her memory will live on with the many families and friends she has touched over the years in Vietnam, across America, Canada, and especially Louisville.
Georgette's life can be summed up in one phrase: Self-sacrifice. Whether it was her kindergarten students in Vietnam or her many Vietnamese, Chinese, or Haitian ESL students, she made sure they were welcomed, because she, herself, was a refugee. Our many families that came to America after the war remember the many meals cooked and the many beds made. Her husband will never forget the reason he was able to succeed over years. Finally, her grandchildren will always know that their parent's successful guidance was rooted in her life lessons taught not by words, but tireless action.
Nguyen Tin Xuan Hoang now joins her father, mother, older brother, and younger sister in the heavens finally able to garner the rest and happiness she deserves. If Buddha and Jesus need any help, they will know who to reach out to.
