Georgia Alexopoulos, of
Randolph, MA passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Sunday December 22nd, 2024. Georgia was the loving mother of Evangeline Zervos, and her husband, Diamantis, the late William Alexopoulos, and his wife, Alexandra, and devoted wife to the late Christos. V. Alexopoulos. Georgia's life was a true testament to love, devotion, and overcoming hardships.
Born in Zoni, Greece, to the late Aggelis & Ioanna Lampropoulos, Georgia's life was struck with immediate tragedy when she and her 7 siblings, lost their father in 1932, and later a brother at the age of 5. Georgia spent her childhood working on her family farm and would often reminisce to her grandchildren about tending to their flock of turkey's and the pressure she felt being charged with baking bread for her family at the tender age of 10.
From a young age, Georgia always dreamed of coming to America, like her father before her, and would often tell her mother so, throughout her childhood. Georgia's dream became a reality in 1955, when at the invitation of her sister, Stavroula, and her brother-in-law, Dimitris Foundas, she came to Boston. It was on that transatlantic voyage that her eye caught, who she described as the tall, and ever-handsome, Christos V. Alexopoulos, also joining his family in Boston. Too bashful to approach him during their 2-week journey, Georgia chalked it up to a loss and never thought she would see him again. But as fate would have it, she and Christos reunited at a Christmas party a few months later. They were soon engaged, when tragedy struck Georgia again, when her then-fiancée, Christos, suffered an accident at work that left him hospitalized and unable to work for nearly a year. Georgia never left his side during the ordeal, visiting him daily in the hospital and rehab, and they were later married in 1957.
Georgia and Christos would welcome their loving children, William & Evangeline, in the coming years. In 1966, Georgia would send for her sister, and mother to join her in Boston, and would later bring over her other sister and her family. Georgia also insisted that her husband's siblings join them in Boston as well and would coordinate their immigration. From 1966 to 1978, Georgia dedicated her life to ensuring that her newly arrived relatives had a place to stay, food to eat, and employment, so that they too, could live the American Dream. She will always be remembered for her loving, compassionate, and nurturing nature.
Georgia's greatest joy were her grandchildren, Christos Alexopoulos, Nicole Alexopoulos and her fiancée Robert McElhinney, Anastasia Scrivanos and her husband George, and Michael Zervos and his wife Meeghan. Georgia always loved when her grandchildren visited, and often enough, the smell of Loukoumades and Diples being made in the Summers would permeate over North Randolph, as they swam and played in the pool.
Her skills in the kitchen were second to none, and among her grandchildren's favorite meals were Pancake breakfasts and Makaronada for lunch.
While her husband worked tirelessly to provide for his family, it was Georgia's love and support from home, that allowed Christos to do what was needed with the utmost assurance that he had the support system in place to do so. Their relationship was built on love, trust, and dedication to each other. Their love lasted over 60 years, until her late husband passed in 2018.
In the coming years, Georgia was blessed with 3 beautiful great-granddaughters, who loved visiting her weekly, like her grandchildren before.
