Georgia Mae Boykin

Georgia Mae Boykin began her journey through life on August 22, 1929 in Talladega, Alabama, blessed to the union of George and Willie Bell (Baker) Carr. On Saturday, June 1, 2024, she peacefully departed from her earthly home to her Heavenly home to dwell as one of God’s Angels forever.

Georgia, who was affectionally known by her family as Mom, Georgia B, Georgia Mae, Ms. Boyk, Granny, Great-granny had many gifts and skills. She touched many lives with her beautiful spirit and smile. She lived in Steubenville, Ohio where she raised all her children. Georgia had numerous jobs. She worked at the Steubenville Ohio Parks and Recreational Center, as Recreational Aide and Maintenance worker where she literally cut city lawn on a tractor. She also served as a Crossing School Guard.

Georgia was involved in a number of organizations. She was a member of the Federated Women’s Club, Sojourner Truth Branch and the Phyllis Wheatly Club, which worked tirelessly to improve their neighborhoods and the lives of their communities.

She was a member for many years at Mt Zion Baptist Church, Steubenville, Ohio where she served as a member of the Spiritulaires Choir and the Women’s Ministry until she moved to Dayton Ohio in 2008. She joined Mt Enon Missionary Baptist Church and became a member of the Mass Choir and Wellness Ministry until her health declined. She moved to Columbus Ohio in 2017 where she resided until her death.

Georgia was preceded in death by her husband, Benny Lee Boykin, mother, Willie Bell Baker Carr, father George Carr, brothers Jerry D. Carr, John “Coach” Carr, son-in-law, Henry VaShawn Patrick.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Erma Boykin, Deborah Thomas, Leona (Marshall) Gray, Christal (Paul) Johnson, Benny Boykin and Robbie (Christy) Boykin, sister, Mattie Burns and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
