Georgia Diane Burnes, 85, passed away, October 10, 2025, at Regency Care Center in Norwalk, Iowa. Funeral Services will be held at 12:30pm, Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Iles Westover Chapel where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
Georgia was born May 12, 1940, in Des Moines to Harley W. Ballinger, Jr. and Catherine R. (King) Ballinger. She was a graduate of North High School in Des Moines. On April 22, 1961, she was united in marriage to James A. Burnes and they made their home in Windsor Heights, where they raised their two sons, Jerry and Jeff. She attended Grandview College in 1962. She worked for many years at Employer's Mutual Insurance Company. She was an office manager in Risk Management until she retired.
Georgia was a member of Windsor Presbyterian Church, where she was active in Bible Study. She was also a member of the Windsor Heights Fire Department Auxiliary and the PTA at Windsor Elementary School and Merrill Junior High School. She enjoyed camping, baking, decorating cakes, drawing and playing piano. She loved collecting dolls and was avid about taking family photos.
Georgia is survived by her sons, Jerry Burnes of Dubuque, IA and Jeffrey (Tammy) Burnes of Blue Springs, MO; grandson, Tyler Burnes of Blue Springs, MO as well as nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; recently her husband, James; brothers, Henry (Shirley) and Arlen Ballinger.
