James Allen Burnes, 88, died Thursday, September 18, 2025 at Regency Care Center in Norwalk. Funeral services will be held 12:30 pm Wednesday, October 1st at Iles Westover Chapel where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.

Jim was born August 16, 1937 in Waterloo, Iowa to Floyd and Alice (Eilders) Burnes. He was a graduate of Carlisle High School and served in the US Army with a tour of duty in Korea. Jim worked as a Mail Carrier for the United States Post Office for over 35 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Million Mile Club, honored for not having a traffic accident while working. In his spare time, Jim volunteered with the Windsor Heights Fire Department for over 35 years retiring as Deputy Chief in 2004. He coached his son's little league teams and served as assistant scout master for Boy Scout Troop 38.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia Burnes; sons: Jerry Burnes of Dubuque, Jeffrey (Tammy) Burnes of Blue Springs, MO; grandson, Tyler Burnes of Blue Springs, MO; siblings: Jerald Burnes of Aurora, CO and Leona Hayes of Peoria, IL; and nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Cathy; brother-in-law, Thomas Hayes.
