Gerald N. "Abe" Abraham

Gerald N. Abraham, 89, of Spartanburg, SC, died Friday, October 14, 2022 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born March 14, 1933 in New Castle, PA, he was the son of the late Yaged and Rafha Abraham.
"Abe" was a New Castle City Checker Champion in 1948 at the age of 14. He graduated high school and entered the US Air Force, serving in the Korean War from 1950 - 1954 achieving the rank of Master Sargent with an honorable discharge.
"Abe" was a Spartanburg US Post Office employee where he was the President of the local union, retiring in 1986, after serving 28 years. He was a longtime volunteer at The Charles Lea Center.
An outstanding slow pitch softball pitcher/coach during Spartanburg church league in the 1970's. He was an avid golfer and frequent attendee of The Masters tournament and was a loyal Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
A Master Mason at Drayton Masonic Lodge and a member of Morningside Baptist Church.
A very devoted family man, who was proud of his Syrian heritage. In his later years, he created and designed personal greeting cards that he shared with family and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Mary Ruth Jackson Abraham; their son, Daniel H. Abraham (Cheri) of Moore, SC; their daughter, Andrea L. Abraham of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Michael D. Abraham of Berkeley, CA, Gregory T. Abraham of Columbia, SC, McKenna A. Cooper of Columbia, SC; his siblings, Gary Abraham, Claudia Nelson, Geraldine Fletcher, Dolores Abraham, all of New Castle, PA. He was predeceased by sisters, Gladys Anderson and Gwen Schlemmer.
Visitation will be 2:00 – 5:00 pm Sunday, October 16, 2022 at the home. The Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Monday, October 17, 2022 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by The Rev. Dr. Steven R. Owensby and The Rev. Scott McClellan. Committal will be private.
