Gerald L. Armstrong, 85, passed away peacefully March 27, 2025 at Lutheran Community Home. Born March 2, 1940, in Connersville, Indiana, he was the son of the late Clifford L. and Mildred (Reed) Armstrong. He was a graduate of Connersville High School and earned a bachelor's degree in industrial management from the University of Cincinnati.
Gerald served in the banking industry for nearly 40 years, starting at the Bentonville State Bank in 1964. In 1972 he and his wife Sarah moved their family to Seymour, where he began working at Seymour National Bank, eventually serving as President and Chief Executive Officer. In 1992 he joined Home Federal Savings Bank as Executive Vice President. In 2003 he retired to spend more time with his family and looked forward to working on his golf game with his unforgettable group of friends from Tuesday night golf league. His farewell celebration was marked by an official proclamation by Mayor John Burkhart that July 2, 2003, was Gerald Armstrong Day in the city of Seymour.
He served as chairman of the Indiana Bankers Association for the 1988-89 term, was a six-year member of the IBA board and served as the IBA representative to the American Bankers Association. He was an alumnus of the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin and the Senior Board Officers Seminar at Harvard University. He was a three-time recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash, Indiana's highest civilian honor, given by the Governor to recognize an extraordinary commitment to service and community. He received the awards from Governors Orr, Bayh, and Kernan.
He loved helping people and serving the community. He was involved with the Boys and Girls Club of Seymour, Jackson County United Fund, Jackson County Industrial Development Corporation, and the Greater Seymour Chamber of Commerce, as well as countless others. He was named the Chamber's 1994 Citizen of the Year and proudly followed in his father's footsteps serving the community as a member of Lions Club. He was elected president in 1978 and was one of the charter members founding the Seymour Noon Lions Club in 1980.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife, Sarah, and their four children: Gary (Martha), Joel, Katie (David), and Erin (Curt), and grandchildren Matt, Sarah, Madeline, Alan, Holly, and Jesse-who brought him immense joy and pride. He is also survived by his sister, Pamela Langhoff (Norm). He was preceded in death by his parents and a beloved grandson, Zachary Louis Hauser.
Visitation for Gerald will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Voss and Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, 316 North Chestnut Street, Seymour. A private burial for the family will follow at Valley Grove Cemetery in Milton, Indiana.

Uncle Gerald you were one of a kind. Always enjoyed Christmas, visits with the family, our conversations, our hanging out at the pool when we would visit Grandma Mid. Rest in peace and watch out for all of us. Tell everybody up there hello, miss and love you.
Love, Liz
