Gerald Banet II Obituary
Gerald E. "Jerry " Banet, a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, age 78, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh. He was born October 21, 1945 in Princeton, IN, to Gerald and Venetta (Kendle) Banet.
Jerry had lived in Princeton all of his life. He graduated from Princeton High School in 1964. He then went to serve his country and was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy from 1964 to 1968 during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 25 in Princeton, and the United States Navy Memorial. Jerry had formerly worked at Emge Packing Company in Ft. Branch as the highest Lard Cooker where he worked for 23 years. He then went to work for Whirlpool in Evansville as an assembler where he worked for 18 years. Jerry was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Princeton and a member of the Knights of Columbus #1131 in Princeton.
He is survived by children, Shawnee Halbig (Kenny) of Princeton, Victor Banet (Amy) of Princeton, and Carrie Davis (Brad) of Gaston, IN; 2 stepchildren, Shea Reneer of Princeton, and Jon Loftin (Michelle) of Fishers; sisters, Jane Ann Slinker (Bill) of Newburgh, and Judy Hyneman (Bret) of Mt. Olympus; brother, Johnny Banet (Vicki) of Mt Olympus; grandchildren Dalton and Payton Halbig, Caty Banet-Fisher, Cejay and Destin Hardy, Jordan Banet, Cahner Briggs, Jordan "Boogie" Watson, Cale Banet, Leo and Lois Davis; step grandchildren, Brock and Beau Reneer, and Hailey and Makenzie Loftin; great grandchild, Casey Banet; step great-grandchild, Callum Reneer, and one on the way, and several nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Bernedette Banet; his brother, James T. "Jimmy" Banet; his first wife of 28 years, Lois Banet; his second wife of 14 years, Lynda Banet; and step son-in-law, Rick Reneer.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial, at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Princeton, with Fr. Gary Kaiser as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton and from 9 a.m. until the service time Wednesday at the church. A Rosary will be prayed by the Knights of Columbus at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Military graveside services will be provided by the Retired Military Veterans.
