Tom Christeson, 81, of Webster City, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2023.
A visitation will be held in Webster City, IA on Friday, August 4th from 9AM-until time of service at Faith United Methodist Church. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00AM. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery following the service.
Tom Christeson was born in Webster City on January 12, 1942, to Donald and Kathleen (Butterfield). He graduated from Lincoln High School in Webster City in 1960. Tom was united in marriage to Norma Merryman on September 12, 1965, at the EUB Church in Webster City. They were blessed with four children and raised their family on a farm just north of Webster City, before moving to town 29 years ago.
Tom farmed most of his life with his father. He also drove trucks for many years. He most recently worked for Trent and Angie Mason on Mason Family Farms. Tom loved watching his own children in their activities but took great pride in his grandchildren and all their accomplishments, rarely missing anything. He was such a beloved PaPa. He looked forward to spending the day with all the kids at the Iowa State Fair and loved carrying on the tradition of taking the grandkids to "Disney on Ice". Tom was a huge fan of sprint car racing and enjoyed his many summer weekends and Saturday nights spent in Knoxville at the Sprint Car Capital of the World with his family and friends. He loved watching "his boys" Justin Giddings' and Brandon Ikenberry's Duece 5 Motorsports race team for the last couple of years. He would tease everyone and say, "You know, real racecars have wings and don't have fenders!" Tom rarely met a stranger and was a friend to many, always sharing his kind heart along with a story or two. He was a past member of the WC Moose Lodge, and the Elks Lodge as well as a member of Faith United Methodist Church and attended West Des Moines United Methodist Church.
Tom is survived by daughter, Trisha (Jeff) Bach, son, Todd (Laurie) Christeson, son Scott Christeson and Andrea Christeson and daughter, Kari Christeson; grandchildren, Emily (Chad) Potratz, Benjamin Sewick, Tyler Christeson, Graceann, Casey, Connor and Katy Bach, Hank Thomas and Harlee Christeson, and Franklin Thomas Christeson as well as his great-grandson, Oliver Thomas South. He is also survived by sisters and brothers-in-law Carol (Dennis) Egger, and Linda (John) Bourne, as well as nieces and nephews, Abby (Brandon) Christeson-Dolezal, Mathew Egger, Michael (Jill) Egger, Melissa (Kip) Liston, Nicholas (Jess) Bourne and Jerrad (Holly) Bourne, and their children.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Norma, parents, Don and Katy Christeson and his in-laws Leo and Jean Merryman.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial to either The Christeson Family Foundation or directly to the family to be used at their discretion in Tom's memory. Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove, Iowa is caring for the family and arrangements.
If you plan to attend the visitation and/or funeral, please dress comfortably and casually – that is what Tom would've wanted. He hated stuffy dress clothes! Wear your favorite race car or other t-shirt, throw on some shorts and come celebrate a man and a life well lived.
