Gerald Gosselin Obituary

Gerald Gosselin, of Cranford, NJ, died at 92 on November 3, 2025. Jerry was born in Quincy, MA, on May 23, 1933, to Sidney Gosselin and Edith Burgess Gosselin. Both of Jerry’s parents died before he turned 13. He continued to reside in Quincy with his half-sister, Bernice Fitzpatrick Fallon, and her husband, William Fallon, attending Boston College High School until his sophomore year. He then moved to Queens, NY, to live with another half-sister, Grace Fitzpatrick Sakal and her husband, Paul Sakal. Jerry graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood, Queens. At Queens College, Jerry was a member of the Varsity Soccer team and Vice President and Corresponding Secretary of the Alpha Lambda Alpha fraternity. He graduated in 1955 with a BA degree in History. A lifelong learner, Jerry went on to earn several graduate degrees in Education, Psychology and Administration. He spent his career with the New York City Board of Education in the roles of teacher, guidance counselor, school administrator, and summer camp counselor. His fondest memories were as a guidance counselor at JHS 202 in Ozone Park, NY. Jerry married the love of his life, the late Gloria Fava Gosselin, on May 23, 1956. Early on in their marriage, Gloria and Jerry lived in Jackson Heights, Queens, where their three children were born. In 1973, Jerry and Gloria moved to River Vale, NJ, where they raised their children and ultimately lived for 45 years. They were married over 66 years.

A quintessential family man, Jerry never missed an opportunity to be involved in his children's endeavors including school work, special projects, and sports teams. Jerry welcomed everyone into his home and immensely enjoyed hosting family gatherings and celebrations throughout the years. Everyone could count on Jerry as the bartender at any event, order pad and tray in hand, or at the ready with a tale of his life experiences. Always an avid sports fan, he could recite the current NJ high school sports stats on demand. Jerry cheered for the NY Jets, Mets, and the NJ Devils. A regular at the local library, Jerry devoured several suspense and crime novels weekly, and could win a Wheel of Fortune round before the second spin was finished. His devotion for his children naturally continued when Jerry’s grandchildren arrived. You could often spot him sporting Penn State, University of Rhode Island, or Cranford apparel in his standard outfit rotation. He rarely missed an opportunity to support the kids; Jerry’s pride in his grand and great grandchildren was palpable in the stories he told anyone who listened.

In addition to his wife, Gloria, Jerry was predeceased by his daughter, Jeanne Gosselin Wilhoite, his sister-in-law, Catherine E. Fava, and his brother-in-law, John L. Fava and his spouse, Sylvia Fava. Jerry is survived by his two children and their spouses, Linda and Vincent Sheehan, Bob and Joan Gosselin, his son-in-law, Glenn Wilhoite, and three grandchildren – Colleen and Patrick Gosselin, Kathleen Stellakis and her husband, Stanley, and two great-grandchildren, Evangelia and Jacob Stellakis. Visitation will be held at Gray Memorial Funeral Home, Cranford, on Monday, November 17, 2025, from 3 to 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November, 18, 2025 at St. Michael Church, 40 Alden St, Cranford, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the National Kidney Foundation (www.kidney.org) or the American Kidney Fund (www.kidneyfund.org), would be appreciated.
