Gerald F. Harwood, 80, of Hartman Road, Pattersonville, passed away Monday, July 4, 2016, at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness, with his loving family at his side. He was born July 20, 1935, in Truthville, NY, and was the son of the late Leroy and Florence LaFountain Harwood. He attended local schools and was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Harwood worked at Bellevue Dairy, Schenectady, and later owned and operated Harwood's Dairy Farm from 1989 to 1998. Upon his retirement from the Dairy business, he was later associated with the Sears Hardware Store on Route 30, Amsterdam. A dedicated hard-worker, he enjoyed life to the fullest. Everyone enjoyed the stories he would tell of himself and his brother, the infamous freight train hoppers traveling the country never knowing where they might wind up. He enjoyed hunting and fishing trips to Canada and with his grandchildren. He was married to the former Mary Goudard for the past 50 years. Survivors, in addition to his wife, includes three sons, Ricky Robert Harwood, Randy Roy Harwood, of Valatie, NY, Gerald F. (Amy) Harwood Jr., Oil City, Pennsylvania; one daughter, Dawn Marie Gorrow, Schenectady; brother, Leroy (Beatrice) Harwood; three grandchildren, Rachel (Temu) Gibson, Clifton Park, Evan Harwood, Valatie, NY, Clark Hunter Gorrow, Ohio; also three great-grandchildren, Jayden, Jordan, and Justice Gibson, Clifton Park. Gerald was preceded in death by brothers, William Harwood and Walter Harwood. Calling hours will be Thursday 4 to 7 p.m. at the De Stefano Funeral Home, Rt. 5-S, Amsterdam, with a service to follow at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.FUNERAL HOME
