Robert Thompson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rose & Hughes Funeral Home on Oct. 8, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Robert L. Thompson, 66, of Amsterdam, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 6, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.

Born on June 22, 1959 in Quantico, Virginia, he was the son of the late Leland and Shirley (Porath) Thompson. Bob, the son of a Marine, grew up in Virginia, Hawaii, and California before settling in Canajoharie. Upon graduating from Canajoharie High School in 1977, he attended Siena College, where he played baseball and graduated in 1981.

On February 15, 1992, Bob married the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Scorse. Together for 38 years and married for 33, they made their home in Amsterdam where they raised their three children.

Bob was a CFO at many local companies throughout his career, including Renewal by Anderson where he recently retired. He loved to travel, whether it was internationally for work or on family trips to California and Narragansett, Rhode Island.

An avid outdoorsman, Bob loved kayaking- always hoping to catch a glimpse of loons and eagles on the lake. He had a deep passion for hunting, which he shared with his family and beloved dogs. His favorite hunting memories were on family land, out to Montezuma, or trips to North Dakota. As a proud sports fanatic, Bob competed in Fantasy Leagues year-round, often managing at least eight teams at once. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, whether that was enjoying a coffee on the porch, floating in the pool, or sitting around a campfire. Bob was an active member in his community, including coaching his kids' various sport teams, lecturing and serving as a Eucharistic Minister at church, participating on various community boards, and volunteering at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church.

Survivors include his "forever soulmate" Beth; three children, Michael Thompson and his fiancée, Alanna Mecca, Jordan Elizabeth Thompson, Kelsey Thompson, and his devoted chocolate lab Jax; one sister, Kim Gray and her husband George "Joe"; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. In his own words, Bob believed his legacy was his family and the places he worked.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at 11 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church with The Very Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis E.V. as celebrant. The burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, October 13, 2025 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Rose & Hughes Funeral Home, 200 Church Street, Amsterdam, NY. Please visit the online memorial at www.roseandhughesfh.com
