Gerald H. Henderson, 81, of Valdosta, died on Friday, March 3, 2023, at South Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness. Born in Westville, FL to the late Mr. & Mrs. Herdie Henderson, on April 2, 1941, he has lived in this area for the past 60 years. Gerald graduated from Valdosta State College in the early 1960's, having majored in accounting and received his CPA license in 1964. When he passed the CPA test, he became the youngest person in Georgia to earn that title at the time. He worked for a couple of accounting firms until the late 1980's when he and Wendell Godbee and Bob Goddard started their own firm, Goddard, Henderson & Godbee. He helped operate and manage Henderson & Godbee until his retirement. He was also active in many civic and community activities. He was chairman of the Valdosta State University Foundation, was a past state director of the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants and was active for 27 years in the Valdosta North Rotary Club. Gerald was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marilyn Kimmons Henderson, of Valdosta, his daughter, Hope Henderson of Asheville, NC; a son and daughter in law, Kip & Korey Henderson of Valdosta; two grandchildren, Aidan Anderson of Dublin, Ireland and Faris Henderson of Valdosta.
The funeral will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at First United Methodist Church. Dr. Bob Moon and Dr. Anthony McPhail will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1 pm until service time. There will be a private family committal at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.
