Gerald Lasky, age 79 of Oxford. May 27, 1946 - October 10, 2025.
On Friday morning, October 10th of 2025, Gerald Lasky passed away at 79 years old after a hard fight with cancer. While being prayed over and receiving his last rites from a priest, he passed away with his brother Joe and his son Kenny by his side.
Grandpa Jerry was the only grandpa I ever had as part of my life. As a kid, the cousins and I always wanted to go stay at grandma and grandpa's house. They spoiled us rotten with just about anything we wanted. Grandpa spent so many hours with us on the water untangling our fishing lines over and over again. I can remember many adventures on the back of his motorcycle and nights sitting at the computer with him playing monopoly when he really probably wanted to be falling asleep (always in his favorite reclining armchair) watching the news or sports. Even as an adult, there was always a basket full of candy at Easter, a birthday card in the mail for our birthdays, and a pile of presents at Christmas.
Jerry grew up in Dearborn, attended Saint Sebastian Church and graduated from Edsel Ford in 1964. He could be found at the pool being cheered on to the nickname of "feet" because his feet were so large he could outswim anyone. He went on to continue swimming at Henry Ford Community College and broke many swim records at the school.
The work ethic it takes to be such a remarkable swimmer, was one that carried on into his whole life. Starting in an apprenticeship at ford, and ending up as the head of the service department for all the dealerships at Volkswagen, he pulled himself up by his bootstraps and built himself a great life.
In 1978, he moved in with Martha and stepped into the lives of three rebellious teenagers, Marty, Rick, and Kim, and helped give them a more stable home to finish out their childhood. Then in 1985, Martha and Jerry had a son together, Kenny. Anyone watching could see how much he loved that boy his entire life. Little did he know that as he stepped into those teenagers' lives, he would be taking on the role of grandfather to so many kids.
Right up until getting sick, Jerry was as active as ever. He was such a role model of hard work. Jerry could fix anything and everything was always working on something. Doing projects, taking care of his cabin up north, helping Kenny with his roofing business, and being grandpa to a little guy, Oliver, one more time.
Jerry was such a loyal father and husband. He loved his wife so deeply every day of their marriage, and was so committed to her. I am so glad that they were able to have two great vacations together in their last year together. He will be deeply missed, and I hope as his family and friends, we can all carry on his legacy of hard work and loyalty.
He is survived by his wife Martha Lasky of 45 years; children Ken Lasky, Kim Rylance (Mark), Martin Michaels, Rick Michaels; grandchildren; Oliver Lasky, Kurtis Rosen, Seth Michaels (Kasey), Martin Michaels, David Michaels, Chloe Enriquez (Eze), Ian Rylance (Gabby) and Ryan Badowski (Felicia); great-grandchildren; Hudson, Evina, Forest, Declan, Taylor and Santi, siblings Joe (Penny) Lasky and Janet (Dave) Soltis. Preceded in death by his parents Lucy and Joseph Lasky and his son-in-law Ken Rosen.
