Gerald "Jerry" Laundree, 78, of Keeseville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at home with his Sweetie by his side.
He was born in Plattsburgh on March 3, 1946 the son of James and Marjorie (Hamlin) Laundree.
Jerry graduated from Keeseville Central School in 1963. He received his BS in Secondary Math from Plattsburgh State in 1968 and enlisted in the US Navy in 1969. He was stationed in Long Beach, CA aboard the USS Ramsey DEG-2, and went on two Westpac tours to the Gulf of Tonkin off the coast of Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1973 as an Operations Specialist 2nd Class.
Jerry started work at Clinton Correctional Facility in 1973 as a Math teacher, becoming Education Supervisor and then Education Director, retiring in 2005.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 28 years, Joy Laundree, "Sweetie" as Jerry always called her; son, Brian (Caren) Laundree, daughters, Christine (Jeremy) Devins, Shannon (Joe) Girardi, Angie Provost, Jodi (Cory) Barton; grandchildren, Patrick (Laura) Sargent, Tristan and Brielle Laundree, Nate (Joellen) Devins, Connor Devins, Kayla Furnia, Dominic, Sofia and Gianna Pinello, Cody Provost, Tommy Taylor, Noah Barton, and Liam Barton; great-grandson Gabriel Sargent.
Jerry is also survived by his siblings, James (Jane) Laundree, Mary Laundree (Carol Wera) and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his family, he leaves behind several cherished friends, too many to mention but Jerry would want to list one of his dearest friends, Danny Barber who he loved despite the fact that he was a Republican. Jerry was affectionately given the nickname "Shorty" by his buddies, but despite being only five and a half feet tall, his presence was anything but small.
He was always ready to help anyone and had a smile that would light up any room. If Jerry didn't tease you, you would wonder what was wrong.
He loved his family, his faith and his friends with the heart of a giant. Until recently, you could find Jerry enjoying breakfast, QuickDraw and the company of his buddies at Pleasant Corner restaurant every morning. Jerry loved golfing, going to the casino, watching sports and his special girl, Sassy the cat. But mostly he loved spending time with his family. Nothing would cheer him up more than when his family would stop by for a visit and give him a big hug.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 2 PM at St. John The Baptist Church, 1804 Main Street, Keeseville, with Rev. Clement Rimonds, HGN, celebrating. The family invites you to join them after the service at Gigi's on the River at 1878 Route 9,
