Gerald W. Long, 75, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at his home in Lexington. He was born September 7, 1949, to Maurice H. Long and Nancy Darland Long, both deceased. He graduated from Lafayette High School in 1967.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years JoAnne Long; daughters Jennifer Long, Kimberly Lindsey (Sean); a son Garry W. Snow; a granddaughter Madison Ahearn; a sister Marcia Laughlin (Kenny); a brother Kevin Long (Mandy); and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was a very loving husband and father. He made many friends during his career. He was a pioneer in the cable television and fiber optic industry in Lexington, started working at Barney Miller's in downtown Lexington for many years. He and a friend built a small cable TV system in Millville, Kentucky and worked as an engineer in the fiber optic industry. He and his family spent many years on their boat at Cumberland Lake and Dale Hollow Lake and enjoyed working on cars and genealogy. He retired in 2018 and spent his remaining years with his wife, family and friends enjoying life and their fellowship. He was an amazing man.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Kerr Brothers-Harrodsburg Road. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Springhill Cemetery in Harrodsburg, KY.
