Gerald William Lyon was born in Traverse City, MI on March 8, 1937 to the late Jack E. and Alice Clare (Hardy) Lyon. He passed away unexpectedly on June 6, 2024 at Brian's House surrounded by family. He was raised in Traverse City where he attended Traverse City High School. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force in Germany.
Jerry worked for Bunker Ramo where he met the love of his life, Emily Isabell, while doing computer repair at the bank where Emily worked, Federal Savings and Loan in Southfield in 1968. Emily wanted to touch a machine and someone told not to touch or "Jerry Lyon will get you." They married April 4, 1970.
Jerry enjoyed traveling, visiting friends and camping at the Tawas RV Park. Jerry was also a dog lover and an M.S.U. fan. He built and flew model airplanes, did wood working, loved bike riding and is now riding those Heavenly Byways. He was member and Past Patron of Bay Chapter No. 219 O.E.S., Worshipful Master of Wenona Lodge No. 256 F. & A.M. and was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies-Valley of Michigan.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Emily, his daughter Denise (Dale) Adamczyk, granddaughters: Andrea and Michelle, great granddaughter Lillyana. He also leaves many close family members, brothers and sisters-in-law and special cousins Marci and Andy Phares. He was preceded in death by his brother Edward and sister Jackie.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Penzien Steele Funeral Home. Jerry's great-nephew, Timothy Pacifico will officiate. Burial will be at the Great Lakes National Cemetery, a military cemetery in Holly, MI. Visiting hours will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until the service begins. Memorials may be made to the wishes of the family.
