Alan Lyon Obituary

Alan Arthur Lyon

Jan 27, 1942 - Aug 22, 2025

Alan Arthur Lyon, 83, left this earth for his eternal, heavenly home with Jesus on August 22, 2025. Despite living a healthy and vigorous lifestyle, lymphoma took us by surprise, but his journey here on earth was filled with love and purpose.

We celebrate a man who had a tremendous impact on so many lives. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Delores Price Lyon, with whom he shared 69 wonderful years. Together, they built a wonderful and caring family, made countless lifelong friends, and modeled their Christian faith. His family, including his three daughters, Alisa Miller (Scott), Dawn Spencer, and Chris Shelley (Dawn), will miss him dearly. He was not only the best father but also our best friend. Additionally, he leaves behind his five grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Taylor Spencer (Morgan), Brycen and Marlie; Garrett Spencer (Jordan), Emerson and Finley; Sam Spencer (Abigail), Dawson; Cameron Shelley; and Sierra Shelley (Dylan) and Xavier. His beloved sister, Mary Mcleod (Clark), and his many nieces and nephews will also deeply miss him.

Al was preceded in death by his father, John Lyon; mother, Vivian Lyon; brother, Ed Keys; sister, Joni Thornton; son-in-law, Bobby Spencer; and nephew, John Gibson.

Al was born January 27, 1942, to John and Vivian Lyon in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from Marion High School in 1960. He enjoyed playing sports at Marion High School where he met Delores Price, his future wife. He then entered the Navy working in the Air Intelligence and Operations Dept. aboard Ticonderoga and often recalled fondly of his time in the service.

After serving in the Navy, he began his career at Penick and Ford, later being transferred to R.J. Reynolds Tobacco which required relocation to Winston-Salem, N.C., where he spent the rest of his life. Al's career spanned multiple roles in the company with his final being in Sports Marketing from which he retired.

Al's passion was spreading the word about Jesus Christ and treating each person as special and important. He never met a stranger no matter where he was or with whom he was talking. He dedicated much of his time to ministering to those in need, serving in various roles for the church and community, including Lay Pastor, Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, and guest speaker.

He loved spending time with his family and was an avid reader who enjoyed learning and sharing his knowledge with others. Alan has touched many lives in countless ways and is remembered as one of the kindest people in the world. We will remember him as a loving husband and father, son, uncle, our spiritual warrior and friend, and someone who genuinely cared about others and made sure they knew it. We already miss him greatly.

Well done, good and faithful servant.

A celebration of his life will be conducted at 3 p.m., Friday, September 12, 2025, at First Alliance Church of Lexington, N.C., 1370 Arnold Rd, Lexington, NC 27295, with Rev. Paul Titus officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service.

Military honors will be provided by the United States Navy.
