Chavez Funeral Home - Santa RosaGerald Amadeo Maestas, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on November 9, 2025, in Albuquerque, NM, at the age of 58. Born on February 8, 1967, in Las Vegas, NM, Gerald was a life-long resident of Dilia, where he made lasting contributions to his community and was deeply respected by those who knew him.
A proud graduate of Santa Rosa High School in 1985, Gerald furthered his education at New Mexico Highlands University. He excelled in his career as a Truck Driver and served as a Custodial Supervisor at Luna Community College in Las Vegas, forging strong connections with colleagues and students alike. His dedication extended beyond his professional life; Gerald was also a parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dilia and San Jose Catholic Church in Anton Chico.
Gerald was married to his beloved wife, Rene, on July 8, 1995, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Together, they built a warm and loving family, which Gerald cherished immensely. He is survived by his wife, Rene Maestas of Dilia, NM; sons Robert Maestas and Amadeo Maestas; granddaughter Olivia Maestas of Roswell, NM; bonus grandchildren Emmalee and Eilee Romero; godchildren Ava Lucero, Matthew Montoya, and Nazario Maestas, III; and bonus daughter Shanika Lucero. Gerald also leaves behind his nieces Sara Maestas and Patrizia Flores-Rodriquez, and nephew Ross Maestas. Additionally, he considered Nazario Maestas, Jr. and Joseph Perea as his brothers, further underscoring the deep bonds of friendship he formed with his numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends throughout his life.
Gerald's passions included ranching, and he found joy in visiting with friends, sharing laughter as a prankster and jokester. His interests ranged from horse racing and fishing to spending time at the casinos, with his wife, and he was known as the life of the party. Yet his greatest joy came from the quality time he spent with family and friends, moments that were the cornerstone of his life.
In addition to his personal achievements, Gerald was the Treasurer of the Anton Chico Land Grant, serving his community with pride and dedication. He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Roberto and Dulce Maestas, and his brothers Bobby, Ronnie, and Tomas Maestas.
Gerald's spirit and warm personality will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and forgiveness that will continue to inspire those he touched.
