Rutland- Gerald McCue 1930-2025
Funeral services will be held for Gerald McCue who passed away at the Meadows, on December 17th. Mr. McCue was the son of Gerald and Loretta McCue, and the husband of Patricia Abatiell. He is survived by 2 sisters, 3 children, 2 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and numerous extended family and friends.
He attended Christ the King school and Mount St. Joseph Academy, where he was president of his senior class, in 1948. He then attended Norwich University where he graduated in 1952, as a 2nd Lieutenant, in the U.S. Army. Upon graduation, he was assigned to the U.S. Army’s Signal Corp in Italy, from 1952 to 1954. Mr. McCue was honorably discharged from the Army in 1954.
For the next 18 months, he worked as an electrical engineer for Westinghouse. He then decided to secure employment, within the management training program, of General Electric. He would remain as a manufacturing engineer for GE, until his retirement in 1989.
On November 5, 1955, he married Patricia “Patty” Abatiell, also of Rutland. The McCue’s would remain married for a total of 66 years until the passing of Mrs. McCue in 2021. During his career with GE, Mr. McCue was assigned to manufacturing facilities in Lynn Massachusetts, Syracuse New York, Erie Pennsylvania, and Fort Edward, New York.
The McCue family resided in South Glens Falls, N.Y. after the Fort Edward assignment, for a total of 38 years. During this period, summers were spent at a second home at Lake Bomoseen. Mr. McCue was an active member of the Lake Bomoseen Association and enjoyed golfing at the Rutland Country Club. He would also spend his time with the local Boy Scout organization in South Glens Falls. In 1999, Mr. McCue and Patty would purchase a condominium in Naples Florida where he acted as President of his Homeowners Association for 4 years. The McCue’s would eventually sell this property and return to Lake Bomoseen in 2017.
Visiting hours for family and friends will be held on Monday December 29, 2025 from 9:30 A.M. – 10:30A.M at Clifford Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday December 29, 2025 at 11 A.M., at Christ the King Church, Rutland with the Rev. Msgr Bernard W. Bourgeois as the celebrant.
Burial will be at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery.
