Gerald Patrick Murphy

Gerald Patrick Murphy, age 83, of St. Augustine, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025 at the Bailey Family Center for Caring. Gerry was born to Christopher Gerald and Josephine (nee Clifford) Murphy on June 3, 1942 in the seaside New England town of Newport, Rhode Island. He attended Boston College and served his country as a Hospital Corpsman in the US Coast Guard.
Gerry dedicated many years of his life to serving others as a paramedic and supervisor for the Fallon Ambulance Service in the greater Boston area. After retiring, he embraced a new chapter of his life moving in St. Augustine in December 2006, where he became an active member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 14-7. He was a member of Flotilla 14-7 for over 14 years. During these years Gerry was awarded the following: DHS Outstanding Unit Award, Auxiliary Membership Service Award (2X), Coast Guard Meritorious Team Commendation (5X), Coast Guard Unit Commendation (3X), and the Sustained Auxiliary Service Award.
A lifelong Catholic, Gerry was a member of San Sebastian Catholic Church, where he actively participated in the spiritual life of the community. Known for his intelligence and inquisitive nature, Gerry had a remarkable ability to engage in thoughtful discussions on a wide array of subjects, always eager to learn and share his insights. Though he lived a life of solitude, he greatly enjoyed the social connections he had made in his years in St. Augustine.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at St. Johns Family Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Friday, October 17, 2025 at San Sebastian Catholic Church. Interment will follow on Monday, October 20, 2025 at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
