Gerald Ivan Ohe, 86, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at The Linden in Moorhead, MN, under the care of Ethos Hospice and the Linden staff.

Gerald was born on the family farm near rural Rothsay, MN, on May 12, 1939, to Ingard and Gertie (Halbakken) Ohe. He attended grade school in District 78 and Pelican Rapids, MN. He graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1957, and he relished the fact that the class of ’57 was so iconic that it was memorialized in song by the Statler Brothers. While attending high school, he participated in various sports and high school choir.

After high school, he enlisted in the Army in 1958 where he served his country until his honorable discharge from the service in 1960. After the service, he attended Dakota Business College and received an associate’s degree in accounting and then later attended MSU.

Gerald was united in marriage to Arlys Helm in Fergus Falls, MN, on November 9, 1963. They raised three children, Kirsten, Shelley, and Darin.

After graduating from Business College, Gerald was employed by Tallman Oil Company for 8 years, then went to work for Eide Helmeke Boelz and Pasch, which later became Eide Bailly, for 30 years as their Accounting Administrator. In 1991, he received the National Outstanding Accounting Administrator award for CPA firms from CPA Administrative Report.

Upon retirement from Eide Bailly, he worked part-time for Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd as their finance manager until December 2020. He was a long-time member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and served as their treasurer, was a member of their choir and the Helping Hands group.

Gerald was a proud veteran of the United States Army and took part in the Veterans Honor Flight in 2023. He was also proud of his Norwegian heritage and toured Norway in 1996 and was a member of Vikingland Kiwanis for over 30 years, holding various offices, including President. He was a member of the committee which led several Ohe Family reunions at the Ohe Barn and South Immanuel Church.

Gerald loved spending time at the Helm/Ohe Cottage on Deer Lake.

Gerald was an avid sports fan and enjoyed attending Spuds and Cobbers basketball and football games along with the occasional Vikings, Twins, or Gophers game. Most notably among those was seeing the Twins defeat the Dodgers in game 6 of the 1965 World Series and watching his favorite Viking, Joe Kapp, throw 7 touchdown passes against the Baltimore Colts in 1969. He attended Vikings games in each of their first six decades, the last being a win over the Falcons in 2019.

Gerald was a valued advisor to his family, friends, coworkers, and church staff throughout the years. He was always available to answer questions and provide guidance. He also provided years of unsolicited advice to referees at the various games from his chair and had an uncanny ability to remember their names and personal backgrounds when expressing that advice.

Gerald will be remembered for his sincerity, dependability and loyalty. He always had a moment to spare for anyone who crossed his path, whether they knew him or not and loved to treat everyone as if he knew them.

Most of all, Gerald adored his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, attending as many of their events as he possibly could to express that adoration. He was recently able to meet and hold his new great-grandson, William.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife of nearly 62 years, Arlys; children, Kirsten O’Callaghan, Minnetonka, MN, Shelley (Chuck Priess) Ohe, St. Louis Park, MN, and Darin (Missy) Ohe, Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Abigail “Abby” (Jeremy) Miller, Menasha, WI, Mia O’Callaghan, Eden Prairie, MN, Andrew Ohe, Fargo, ND, Elizabeth “Liddy” Ohe, Bloomington, MN, Alexander “Alex” Ohe, Fargo, ND; great-grandson, William Miller, Menasha, WI; sister, Kathryn Huseby, Moorhead, MN; sister-in-law, Doris Ohe, Fargo, ND; many nieces and nephews; and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ingard and Gertie; brothers, Dennis Ohe and Ronald Ohe; sister, Evangeline Bakken; and brother-in-law, Douglas Bakken.
