It is with profound sadness and love that we share the passing of Gerald Douglas Sarno, known to all as "Jerry," who left us peacefully at his home in Deer Path Farms, Hudson, MA, on Saturday, October 4th.

Born on October 24, 1942, to the late Emelio and Rose (Scali) Sarno, Jerry grew up in Winchester, MA, where he met the love of his life, Judith (Sullivan). From the moment they met, Jerry and Judy were inseparable, building a life together that spanned 58 beautiful years of marriage-a partnership rooted in devotion, laughter, and unwavering support.

Jerry's life was a testament to creativity and vision. After graduating from St. John's Prep in Danvers, he earned his degree in Architecture from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. After years in Ohio, Jerry and Judy returned to Massachusetts and settled in Boylston, where Jerry designed and built their family home. It was there they raised their three beloved sons: twins Doug and Rob, and their younger brother Brett. That home became the heart of countless family gatherings, holidays filled with warmth, and memories that will live on forever.

A gifted architect and real estate developer, Jerry left an indelible mark on the landscape of Massachusetts. His work-most notably the award-winning Assabet Village and Deer Path Farms-reflects his creativity, integrity, and relentless pursuit of excellence. His passion for design was more than a career-it was an art form. As Richard D. Woods once said, "A man with many monuments everywhere you look doesn't need a tombstone." Jerry's legacy is etched not only in the buildings he created but in the lives he touched.

Jerry's passions were as vibrant as his personality. He cherished his Italian heritage, loved capturing life's beauty through photography, and never missed a chance to cheer on his beloved New England sports teams-especially the Patriots. But above all, Jerry's greatest joy was his family. He was the foundation and soul of the Sarno family, a man whose love, wisdom, and humor shaped generations. His grandchildren knew him as "Nonno" or "Ranca," names spoken with pure affection and countless stories of shared adventures, laughter, and lessons.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Judith; his sons G. Douglas II (Catherine) of Davidson, NC, Robert (Allison Marshall) of Longmont, CO, and Brett (Benita) Sarno of Southborough, MA; and his beloved grandchildren Sarah (Andrew) Gover, Alijah (Madeline) Sarno, Matthew Sarno, Angel Aponte, Elizabeth Sarno, Domenic Sarno, Tahlia Massetti-Sarno, Adriana Sarno, and Avery Sarno; as well as great-grandchildren Charlotte Gover and Jude Sarno. He also leaves behind cousins Steven (Cynthia) Scali and Maureen (Michael) Kaminski, along with many cherished in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Jerry's life was a beautiful story of love, family, and purpose. Though his passing leaves an unfillable void, his spirit will live on in every life he touched, every building he designed, and every memory shared around the family table.

A memorial mass will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association in Jerry's memory.

Today, my heart is very sad at the passing of my wonderful friend, Jerry. We were room mates for a short period of time when we both attended Northeastern University. Even though we were together as class mates for a bit of time, we did keep in touch over the years. I loved Jerry's laugh and his outlook on life. I marveled at his ability to build unique homes for so many people. Usually, he had about six units under construction each time we spoke on the phone. I am very sad at his passing and will miss him every day. We have choices about what we do no that he is no longer with us. We can be depressed and down hearted at his passing. Or we can be optimistic about the future and remember what light and laughter Jerry brought into so many people's lives. I can only imagine the happiness he brought to so many people when he built their dream homes in Hudson. For many, many reasons, Jerry will be missed so very much. Barry Parker
