Gerald Servoss Obituary

Gerald C. "Butch" Servoss Gerald Clair Servoss was born on February 3, 1946 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Weighing almost 11pounds at birth, he was nicknamed "Butch" by the hospital nurses, and the name stuck with him the rest of his life.

Butch grew up in Denison, Iowa and graduated from Denison High School in 1964. He served in the Navy for four years, where he volunteered as a Navy Corpsman to serve with the Marines in Vietnam. He was always proud of his military service, and being a Corpsman-"Doc", as the Marines called him-left an indelible mark on him.

An accomplished guitar player, Butch was in many bands throughout his life, but no band could ever match the joy he got from singing with his brothers and sisters. Holidays were special occasions when the five siblings would gather to sing favorite songs. Led by Butch on guitar, the close harmony gladdened the hearts of all who heard it. One song, "More," was usually the last song of the evening and required especially flawless five part harmony to sing the final words:

"No one else could love you more."

Butch is preceded in death by his parents, Clair and Catherine, brother Larry and sister Mary Kay Servoss, and his beloved dogs Bandit and Gunny.

He is survived by his daughter Kristin and former wife Amy, of Colorado, brother Marc and sister Patti Mategrano (Pat) of Omaha, sister-in-law Susan Servoss of Lincoln, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 5801 Oak Hills Dr, at 10:30am ,April 14, 2023. Breakfast/lunch will follow at Jimmy's Egg, 2904 South 132nd St.
