Gerald "Jerry" Henry Adolph Wasmund, of Cecil, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at the age of 90, surrounded by family. He will always be remembered for his teasing, laughter, hard work ethic and love of family and God. Jerry had a passion for fishing, hunting and gardening, which he did into his 80's and was always active in his church.
Jerry was born October 22, 1934 in Hintz, Wisconsin. He worked on the family farm and drove milk truck. He joined the Army in November 1952 and served active duty until December 1955. Jerry served in the Korean War and fought in combat with heavy artillery fire for months prior to being wounded and earning his Purple Heart medal. He also received the Combat Infantry Badge, Distinguished Unit Citation, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. On July 27, 1953 the long awaited "Cease Fire" was signed, and Jerry drove for the General for the remainder of his service; the General choose him because of how meticulous he was. He served in the Army reserve from 1955 until 1960. Jerry was honored to be selected for the Old Glory Honor Flight and to be recognized in 2019 at the Suring Pride Military Night.
Jerry moved to Milwaukee after his service where he became a Mechanist at P&H Harnischfeger for the next 45 years. He married Jene Ann Kirk February 14th, 1957.

I am so sorry to hear about Jerry´s passing. My buddy, Roger Prellswitz and I, from the Clintonville area, drove to Shawano to join the army in Nov. 1952. We were sworn in there with Jerry and Maynard Schroeder from around the Cecil area. After basic trading we were all sent to Korea. Jerry received an injury. Maynard, died from his injuries, but Roger and I were spared. The picture is of L to R, Jerry, Roger and I. We met in Shawano for coffee one time I was was back there. I have lived in WA state for 70 years. The second picture is of Jerry and I visiting Maynard´s grave.
