Gerald Don Whitby, age 74, resident of Oakland, Tennessee, passed away on December 21, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
Gerald was born on August 28, 1951, in Memphis, Tennessee. He was a proud graduate of Kingsbury High School in Memphis and went on to build a long and respected career in construction. Gerald worked as a superintendent for Chris-Hill Construction, where he played an important role in building many bridges throughout the Memphis area. His work left a lasting mark on the community and reflected his strong work ethic and dedication.
Gerald enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and spending time outdoors. He loved staying busy and was happiest when working with his hands or enjoying nature.
He is survived by his son, Jared Whitby (Elizabeth); his mother, Nola Whitby; one brother, Kelly Whitby; and one grandchild, Jason Whitby.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosa Whitby, and his father, Bill Whitby.
Services for Mr. Whitby will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Peebles Funeral Home West Chapel in Oakland, with Bro. Mike Hollaway officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Fayette County Memorial Cemetery in Oakland.
