Geraldine Ann Chargois
November 13, 1943 - May 20, 2025
Maurice: Geraldine Ann Chargois a.k.a. "Gerry" was born on November 13, 1943, to the union of Carlton Zenon and Agnes Singleton Zenon of
Lafayette, Louisiana. Mrs. Chargois was reared in a God-fearing household. She was Catholic and baptized at a young age. Mrs. Chargois was called to glory by God on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at 7:04 a.m., while peacefully sleeping at Kaplan Healthcare center of Kaplan, Louisiana, where she resided.
Mrs. Gerry was a very humble and hard-working woman, who prided herself with her amazing cooking skills, and delicious dishes, especially her cakes, and sweet dough pies. People from all over Acadiana would come to St. Jospeh church bizarre to purchase her world famous oreilles de cochon ( pig ears), fried sweet dough drizzled with Steen's syrup and covered with chopped pecans). Mrs. Chargois cooked daily for her family of 10, even with all of her children moving out and starting families of their own, Momma Gerry always had a large Sunday dinner prepared for them to come home and enjoy, as well as every holiday. She also spent 20 years managing the kitchens for Cecil Picard Elementary and Rene Ross Elementary and after retiring from Vermilion Parish School System, she realized she wanted to continue her passion for cooking and began working at Principal List Preschool where she cooked for little ones daily until her retirement.
Beyond the kitchen, she had an undeniable sense of style and a true flair for fashion. Though she was a talented seamstress, she only did this as a hobby. She lovingly crafted countless beautiful dresses and outfits for herself and her daughters, leaving a legacy stitched with care, creativity and grace. Mrs. Gerry was also very creative in "telling you how it is". She always kept it real but loved everyone genuinely.
Mrs. Chargois was a faithful servant of God, being a long-time parishioner of St. Joseph Church of Maurice for 50 years. She faithfully commentated and lectured at Saturday mass and was a member of the church choir. One of Mrs. Chargois proudest moments was being part of the Knights of Peter Calver, Ladies Auxiliary Court #70 for over the last 50 years where she served as Grand to term and held several other roles during her time within the organization. Her most cherished contribution was founding the Junior Daughter Division for Court #70, Maurice. Mrs. Chargois mentored and inspired many young girls; planted seeds of confidence, purpose and faith in their hearts. She was also a member of the Alter Lady Society for 30 years and was President for a total of 10 years.
